Six moments from Silent Spring in 1962 to the PFAS finding of 2023, with the count of chemicals on the federal registry set against the fraction ever tested.
One continuous rail of years carries six dated moments, spaced to scale. Silent Spring in 1962, the founding of the EPA in 1970, DDT banned in 1972 and the Toxic Substances Control Act in 1976 crowd together at the left. Then a gap of forty years to the Lautenberg amendment of 2016, and the 2023 inspector-general finding on a PFAS assessment. Four of the six fall inside fourteen years; nothing dated stands between 1976 and 2016.
