How Small Is Small?, one pinch of sugar, diluted.

Three rungs of dilution, each a thousand times the last. One pinch of sugar in a seventeen gallon fish tank is one part per million. The same pinch in a seventeen thousand gallon swimming pool is one part per billion. One thousandth of that pinch in each of a thousand pools is one part per trillion. The vessels are drawn as symbols; the gallons on the label carry the ratio.
